Saving Jax and Riley, part 3

March 19, 2014

As the third part of our Saving Jax and Riley series, I will share about our sweet little Jax. Here is Jax’s rescue story…

A road trip from Nevada back to California became a life changing event in the form of a regular old pit stop (no pun intended).

It was a Sunday afternoon and my boyfriend and I were on our way back from a weekend visiting family. After driving for a few hours we decided it was time to stop for gas and snacks in an area we weren’t too familiar with. There was traffic and it was difficult getting off the highway. We missed the first exit we were trying take, so we headed a few more miles to the next exit. This “wrong” exit ended up being the best “mistake” we ever made.

While sitting at the stop light at the end of the exit, we noticed a man that seemed a bit off. This man was holding a dog, and pacing around the intersection, acting erratically, and didn’t seem like he was in his right mind. Neither of us felt good about the situation and knew we needed to follow our intuition and keep an eye on him. Our intuition was right, and we watched as the man picked the dog up over his head and threw him down onto the sidewalk. We gasped and rushed over to the man and dog, and quickly discussed how we could handle this situation to get the dog away from this person. While we were parking the car, the man had taken refuge in between two buildings and the dog had followed behind him. We approached them slowly, asked if they needed help, and without much of a response from the man, we decided to ask if we could adopt his dog. He didn’t hesitate and said we could take his dog. Now that the situation was calm and the dog was in the safety of our hands, we realized this was just a young puppy, and a malnourished puppy at that.

As we drove away from this “wrong” pit stop, we knew it was all so “right” and we were meant to be there at that moment to save this puppy. We named him Jax and brought him home for our clan of dogs to meet. While we weren’t sure whether we would be able to keep Jax for life or adopt him to a loving home, we knew we helped this little guy and gave him a second chance at living a life he deserves to live.

Jax has become a part of our family and our three dogs fell in love with him just as we did. He has already been on family vacations up to the snow, he loves to play on the beach, and above all, he loves to tease his older sister Kali, and play with his brothers Brody and Riley. As we mentioned in Saving Jax and Riley part 1 and part 2, Riley and Jax have formed a bond that is unbreakable. They are best friends and are lucky to have one another. Jax is growing up to be a sweet, loving, and kind puppy. Like all of our dogs, Jax is the perfect example why we rescue dogs; to give innocent animals a second chance at life. He now lives a fulfilling life with his brothers and sisters, has play dates with friends, and loves to snuggle. We are so proud of him and will forever be thankful he is now a part of our lives.
